Taylor Travel Guide
Welcome to Taylor!
Located just north of Peace River in Northern British Columbia is the small town of Taylor. Named after Herbert Taylor—a fur trader with the historic Hudson's Bay Company—the first residents of the town were trappers, living in Taylor when fur trading was at its peak. For almost two centuries, the centre was an isolated place and those travelling in and out of the town did so only by ferry. In 1942, however, the Peace River Suspension Bridge was constructed and connected Taylor with the Alaska Highway.Today the town's residents are known for their enthusiasm for sports. Within Taylor's small area—17 sq km (6 sq mi)—there is an ice arena and curling rink, an indoor swimming pool and a golf course. There is also much to explore for any nature lover, especially the banks of the river itself. The town is situated on the Taylor Flats, which are geological shelves lining the river shores. The flats provide an interesting plateau that is complete with its own unique wilderness.
